Matt McDonald, Partner – Employment, Shakespeare Martineau

Matt is a partner in Shakespeare Martineau’s Employment Team. His expertise extends across all areas of employment law, including considerable experience of advising clients on complex employment litigation, senior hires and exits, large-scale redundancy exercises and complicated TUPE issues.

Matt has over 15 years’ experience of supporting companies with their employment matters, ranging from FTSE 100-listed corporates to smaller, owner-managed businesses and everything in between. He has a reputation for giving pragmatic and commercially focused advice and is noted for his ability to quickly to get to the heart of complex issues.

Matt is ranked as a key lawyer in the Legal 500 directory and has expertise in employee-related high court litigation, including advising clients on the enforcement of restrictive covenants. He also specialises in national minimum wage issues and disputes.

Emma Oliver, Legal Director, Shakespeare Martineau

Emma is a legal director in Shakespeare Martineau’s Employment Team. She acts for a range of clients including in the public sector, manufacturing and engineering, creative industries, care providers and insolvency practitioners.

Emma has expertise in employee relations matters and regularly advises clients on restructures, redundancies, TUPE, capability and disciplinary matters. In addition to this, she assists clients in defending employment tribunal claims that are complex in nature, often involving issues such as breach of contract, unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE and whistleblowing. She has also had exposure to the defence and resolution of equal pay claims.

Emma provides training on various topics of employment law to managers and HR professionals, and regularly provides advice in relation to settlement agreements. She has a commercial and common-sense approach to resolving client issues and clients appreciate her practical and supportive approach to matters.
