Reed Learning achieves ‘Good’ rating in first Ofsted report 

Leading qualifications and apprenticeship provider Reed Learning has received a rating of ‘good’ in its first full Ofsted inspection. 

In their report, inspectors rated all aspects of the HR and L&D apprenticeship provision as ‘Good’ and praised the support provided by Reed Learning’s 'professionally qualified advisers' who have 'extensive experience in the HR and Learning and Development sectors'. 

Pierre Vangrevelynghe, Reed Learning’s Managing Director, said:

“This is our first Ofsted since we established the apprenticeships business under Reed Learning and we are delighted with this impressive outcome. To achieve a rating of good for all the inspectors’ judgements is a significant achievement and is a credit to the dedication and care provided by our excellent tutors and the hard work of their apprentices."

“We are looking forward to building on this first Ofsted inspection by continuing to provide an excellent service which develops the skills and knowledge of our apprentices and meets the needs of their organisations,” he added. 

An accredited provider of a range of HR and L&D apprenticeships, Reed Learning works with apprentices in the public, private and charitable sectors.  At the time of the inspection there were 91 apprentices on levels 3, 5 and 7 HR and L&D programmes.  

Ofsted’s visit to Reed Learning’s London office took place over several days in the Autumn and resulted in the following judgements of the company’s apprenticeship business:  

• Overall effectiveness – good 

• The quality of education – good 

• Behaviour and attitudes – good 

• Personal development – good 

• Leadership and management – good 

• Apprenticeships – good 

Inspectors went on to say that ‘apprentices learn in a calm and respectful environment where they enjoy interacting with each other and sharing their ideas in small groups.’ They also highlighted the ‘good quality resources’ that are provided to apprentices which ‘deepens their knowledge of key topics and helps them complete assignments to a good standard.’ 

The report added that the curriculum is effectively structured so apprentices gain knowledge they can quickly apply at work. As a result ‘the curriculum meets employers’ and apprentices' needs well.’ 

Inspectors found that Reed Learning advisers teach apprentices and coordinate on and off-the-job training effectively. 

'This helps apprentices gain significant new knowledge, skills and behaviours. Employers value the increasing contribution that apprentices make at work. With their improved skills, apprentices take on more responsibility. For example, HR apprentices write policies, develop organisational strategies and conduct investigations independently,’ the report added.

Reed Learning is a registered provider of apprenticeships for levy-paying organisations and has supported hundreds of HR and L&D apprentices through their programmes. The company offers levels 3, 5 and 7 apprenticeship schemes for those starting out in the profession through to senior leaders. Accountancy apprenticeships are delivered through Reed Business School.
