Who is it for?

Ideal for individuals starting a career in L&D or those in HR and support roles looking to formalise their skills, this apprenticeship is suited to anyone passionate about fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Entry requirements

To enroll in the Level 3 Learning & Development (L&D) Apprenticeship, applicants should typically have a strong foundation in English and Maths, often evidenced by five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.

If applicants do not yet have Level 2 English or Maths, they will need to achieve these qualifications before taking the End Point Assessment. Prior experience in training or people-focused roles is helpful but not required; a genuine interest in supporting others’ growth and development is essential.

This apprenticeship is designed for those eager to build a career in L&D, providing all the foundational knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

You’ll also need to demonstrate that you can meet the standard of work for a CIPD Learning and Development Level 3 qualification.

How long does the apprenticeship last?

The Level 3 Learning & Development (L&D) Apprenticeship typically spans 12 to 18 months, allowing apprentices to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience at a manageable pace.

Throughout this period, apprentices participate in structured learning modules, practical workplace assignments, and regular check-ins with mentors to track progress. This flexible timeframe accommodates learners with varying schedules and allows for gradual skill-building that aligns with real-world application in their roles. By the end of the apprenticeship, participants are well-prepared with the skills and confidence needed for a successful career in L&D.

The programme is split into four main phases which include an induction, core modules, End Point Assessment preparation and the End Point Assessment.

How will I be assessed?

Your 20% off-the-job training will be assessed throughout the programme and will be based on the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours (SKBs) you develop.

Throughout the program, apprentices will complete practical assignments, reflective journals, and knowledge-based tests, all designed to apply theory to real-world scenarios. These assessments are structured to support continuous learning, helping apprentices develop critical skills in areas such as training delivery, learner engagement, and performance evaluation. Regular feedback from tutors ensures that apprentices stay on track and are equipped to meet the demands of the L&D profession.

An End Point Assessment takes place once you have completed all the on-programme requirements of the apprenticeship and is an assessment of the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours.
