Keeping accountancy in the family

When Jordon Wright graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 2020, the last thing he was looking for was a job in finance. Having both parents and a brother in the accountancy profession, he wanted to try his hand at something different.

Due to the Covid pandemic, finding a new role wasn’t easy so after learning how to drive and a spell working at a local chip shop, Jordon decided to expand his job search. What followed surprised him when he realised with so much personal exposure to finance in the family, an accountancy career might suit him after all!

The result was he joined Just Audit and Assurance, a specialist firm based in Banbury, as an Audit Junior and has obviously found his niche having already notched up distinctions in all his AAT Level 2 and AAT Level 3 exams with Reed Business School!

Jordon selected Reed Business School for his learning journey after searching on the AAT website.

“Studying AAT at Reed Business School is a good balance between independent study and group workshops with the help of knowledgeable, approachable tutors,” he added.

Life is busy as a junior auditor and juggling studying for accountancy exams with a full-time job can be a challenge. Jordon manages the process well by staying late after work on Monday and Tuesday to study before the weekly group workshop on Thursday led by one of the business school’s tutors Sarah Gray.

“It’s all been enjoyable so far and much more manageable than I thought. The weekly workshops cement each week’s learning but are not too time-consuming. I’ve had the same tutor throughout who is a very knowledgeable and a nice person. It makes you want to turn up to the workshops.”

Currently studying for his final AAT Level 3 exam, Jordon is already looking ahead to a time when he completes the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting and the Level 7 qualifications that lead to a career as a fully qualified chartered accountant.

“Let’s see how it goes in four or five years if I get chartered. I’d like to have my own accountancy business one day,” he added.

Reed Business School tutor, Sarah Gray, commented:

“Jordon’s progress in his studies is exceptional and this is due to his continued hard work and commitment. He sets himself high targets and he meets them every time. He has a great presence in the online workshops and is very supportive to his classmates. It is a pleasure to be a part of his learning journey and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”
