Over the last 15 years, Alex has seen many positive changes in the digital advertising space. Since working at Reed.co.uk it has evolved to be one of the UK’s largest job sites, and Alex’s career has also progressed – he’s gone from a sales role to Head of Sales.
What attracted you to Reed.co.uk initially?
Back in 2008, I found myself working in classifieds sales for a well-known print publication. That was around the time when everyone was buzzing about the potential of digital advertising, especially in classifieds and recruitment. So, I started digging into the market, checking out the big players like Monster.com, LondonJobs (which later became Jobsite), and the Fish4 Group. Then, I stumbled upon Reed.co.uk – I had heard of Reed’s specialist recruitment offering already, and let's just say, the rest is history. What really grabbed my attention about Reed.co.uk was their ambitious approach to the market, along with the fact that they were family-owned.. Plus, their website was super easy to use, which I knew was a big deal for both job seekers and employers. It just felt like the right fit, you know? And from that point on, I was sold and thankfully impressed the interview panel enough to be offered a job!
What has kept you working at Reed.co.uk for so long?
While it might sound cliché, the truth is, the people I've had the privilege to work with have had a profound impact on my experience here and are a big reason why I continue to find joy in my work. The individuals I interact with daily have played an instrumental role in my personal and professional growth. Their support, mentorship, and camaraderie have made it an invaluable experience—one that goes far beyond any monetary value.
What excites and challenges you about your role, how are you supported by the business?
I'm passionate about my role because it allows me to constantly learn and cultivate commercial partnerships with cutting-edge technologies and platforms in the recruitment industry. At the same time, I'm able to nurture existing relationships with some of the UK's largest employers. It's definitely challenging, but the rewards are immense. What I love most is that each day brings new and exciting challenges—no two days are ever alike!
What do you feel makes Reed.co.uk unique?
The culture here is something special. It's all about collaboration, innovation, and helping each other grow. It's refreshing to be part of a team that values these things and actively promotes them every day.I've had the chance to grow a lot since joining as an account executive and now leading as Head of Sales. This kind of commitment to helping employees progress in their careers isn't something you see everywhere, especially in sales roles. On top of this, Reed.co.uk isn't just about business; it's also about making a difference in the community. Whether it's volunteering or supporting charitable causes, there's a real emphasis on giving back, and I love that employees are encouraged to get involved.
What are you most proud of at Reed.co.uk?
I'm incredibly proud of our journey over the past 15 years. We began as a recruitment job board, and since then, we've expanded to become a market leader in offering courses and introduced a groundbreaking pay for performance product, which represents the next evolution in the job board space.
On a personal level, to have started at the company as an account executive and to have been challenged, motivated, and developed into the Head of Sales, for a company that is a frontrunner in the recruitment industry is truly fulfilling. I often reflect on my younger self, and I like to think that 15-year-old Alex Agyei would be proud of how far I've come and the contributions I've made to Reed.co.uk’s success.
