Reed was founded in 1960 by Sir Alec Reed, and we remain a family-run organisation, now spearheaded by our Chairman and CEO James Reed.

Race & ethnicity
By signing the Race at Work Charter, we aim to improve workplace equality for ethnic minorities. We actively support race and ethnicity to ensure a more inclusive work environment for all co-members, enhancing our overall company culture and services.
LGBTQ+
We promote allyship by implementing company-wide digital training to foster LGBTQ+ inclusivity, addressing injustices, stereotypes, and discrimination. We welcome all and encourage our teams to join our LGBTQ+ working groups.

Gender inclusion is crucial in our workplace. We value unique perspectives, creating spaces where all can thrive. Our commitment extends beyond representation, supporting female leaders, promoting mentorship, and encouraging networks that empower co-members to share knowledge and uplift one another.

Our commitment to social impact
Co-member fundraising
The Reed Screening team foster a sense of community and shared purpose by regularly fundraising. Over the last 12 months, we’ve raised money for the likes of the Trussell Trust, Wood Street Mission, Comic Relief, Mental Health Foundation and Little Princess Trust.
The Reed Foundation
The Reed Foundation has donated over £12 million in the past decade to UK charities. Its purpose is to give back and inspire charitable giving and it is the biggest shareholder in Reed's group (18%).
The Big Give
Since 2008, The Big Give has raised over £233 million for more than 14,000 different charities and we hope to continue the good work to reach a target of £1bn raised by 2030.
Better Hiring Institute
Our team work tirelessly to raise awareness when it comes to better hiring in the UK and as part of this, we are active members of the Better Hiring Institute. Chaired by our Director Keith Rosser, the community interest company works with UK government and 10,000 organisations across the UK.
Environmental impact
Our commitment to looking after the planet
Environmental champions
Within Reed Screening and across the Reed Group we have ‘environmental champions’ who advocate for sustainable practices and lead companywide initiatives. They encourage their fellow co-members to reduce waste, conserve energy, and promote biodiversity.
Carbon neutral travel
We’ve adopted a carbon neutral travel policy to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions produced during travel by our co-members. Where possible we encourage our employees to travel as green as possible – via public transport or car sharing.
Raising money for environmental charities
In 2023 we helped raise £4.3 million for environmental charities through the Big Give’s Green Match Fund – a seven-day online match funding campaign to help charities tackling pressing environmental issues.
Planting trees & keeping bees
We also work to improve the lives of animals and plants, as well as people. That’s why we planted 70,000 trees in 2022, and across all of our properties we provide homes to approximately nine million bees.
