The challenge
Our client, TSB, wanted to reduce the overall time taken to onboard new starters, from the initial recruitment stage through to them starting within their business.
This included the time taken for candidates to clear the vetting process – an improvement they required to allow them to become more competitive in the recruitment market and enable candidates to start quicker.
As a financial services organisation, pre-employment screening is critical for TSB to not only meet regulatory requirements, but also to keep their customers safe. This was something they wanted to achieve through efficient and time effective procedures.
The solution
Reed Screening completed a benchmarking exercise, comparing the vetting requirements against other clients and companies within the banking sector. We also completed an end-to-end process review, to identify potential bottlenecks and sticking points within the process.
Our team then utilised Assured ID, opening banking, and HMRC integration, and our own cutting-edge tech stack to improve the end-to-end screening time, boost the customer/client journey, and remove inefficiencies from the screening process.
During the process, one challenge we encountered, was that the referencing part of the vetting procedure largely relies on a third party responding to a reference request in a timely fashion. We introduced an open banking solution to help speed up the return of the references and, although this saw some initial reluctance from people as candidates needed to provide details relating to their bank accounts, we worked with TSB to revise communications and provide more information upfront.
The systems we introduced have been designed to be user-friendly and to drive ‘right first time’ submission. Our team were able to ensure users had a seamless experience, nurtured by building strong relationships, managing expectations and delivering results.
We completed demonstrations in quarterly business reviews to showcase the innovation in the process, and where new systems were being used in-depth training sessions were provided to ensure the client was using the system to its full extent.
Over the years, Reed Screening has built a collaborative partnership with TSB whereby we are able to share our experience, knowledge and industry insights to help inform our client, allowing them to make informed decisions.
The results
Since working with TSB, Reed Screening has been able to reduce their end-to-end vetting by an average of 45%, allowing the client to hire and start new people faster than ever before.
TSB has been so impressed with Reed Screening’s service that they have now agreed a further three-year extension to the contract.
This decision is the result of strong working relationships between Reed Screening and TSB, which has allowed for collaborative working practices across various elements of the bank’s specific screening requirements.
As pre-employment screening has evolved, the Reed Screening team has been able to work with government bodies to ensure TSB candidates have the best possible experience without compromising risk.
